About the VerbundFDB
In the VerbundFDB (German Network of Educational Research Data), relevant national institutions from the field of educational research collaborate to provide an attractive and high-quality range of research data for empirical educational research. The Network is committed to the principles of Open Science. Researchers can archive self-generated data and find research data for subsequent use at the VerbundFDB.
As a central point of contact for research data in educational research, the VerbundFDB offers the following services:

Mission and vision
The VerbundFDB contributes to exploiting the potential of research data generated in educational research exhaustively and to establishing a culture of data sharing. Educational researchers of all disciplines can access quality-assured research data in a user-friendly way and independent of location. While safeguarding ethical, data protection and copyright interests, this enables research approaches across disciplinary and national boundaries. New research potential is created through high-quality research data and new possibilities for linking research data from different sources emerge.
The White Paper Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice and the FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship are fundamental to the research data centres associated in the VerbundFDB.
In addition, VerbundFDB works in close partnership with KonsortSWD and sees itself as part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (nfdi).
Structure and organization
The coordination office of the VerbundFDB is a standing unit at the DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education and is thus financed by the federal and state governments. The basic services of the VerbundFDB financed in this way are operated by the partner institutions GESIS, IQB and DIPF. In addition to running the coordination office, these include the online portal forschungsdaten-bildung.de, a free data archiving service, and a free consulting and training service. The data centres in the VerbundFDB regularly exchange information and work together on selected topics in working groups ( Activities).
The scientific advisory board as well as the user advisory board at DIPF advise the VerbundFDB in strategic questions of the work and development program. In addition, researchers are involved through various committees in order to ensure that the services offered are always closely oriented to the needs of educational researchers.

History
The VerbundFDB was established and expanded in three project phases funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
1st funding phase: 2013 - 2016
In 2013, the three institutes DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education, GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences and the Institute for Educational Quality Improvement (IQB) joined forces to archive and make accessible data from the Framework Programme for Empirical Educational Research of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Final report 1st funding phase (only available in German)
2nd funding phase: 2016 - 2019
Starting in 2016, the services were generally expanded to include educational research data sets and cooperative structures were established with other institutions and research data centres to make educational research data accessible. In addition, training and consulting services were expanded significantly.

Top-up phase: 2019 - 2021
In the 3rd funding phase beginning in 2019, the goal was implemented to permanently establish the structures that had been built. The VerbundFDB services and the available data sets were further expanded and widely publicised.
Final report top-up phase (not yet available).
